7% de la energía eléctrica generada a nivel mundial proviene de Solar
La energía solar es una forma de energía limpia y sostenible que aprovecha la radiación solar para generar electricidad. Es una de las fuentes de energía baja en carbono más prometedoras y ha ganado popularidad por su capacidad de reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero. La tecnología solar puede utilizarse a pequeña escala, como en los techos de las casas para el autoconsumo, o a mayor escala, en parques solares diseñados para suministrar electricidad a las redes eléctricas.
Para generar electricidad, la energía solar utiliza paneles fotovoltaicos que convierten la luz solar directamente en electricidad. Los paneles están compuestos por células solares hechas de materiales semiconductores que generan electricidad cuando están expuestos a la luz. Al conectar varios paneles solares, se puede crear un sistema que produce suficiente electricidad para ser utilizado por hogares, empresas e incluso comunidades completas. La electricidad generada puede almacenarse en baterías o enviarse directamente a la red eléctrica.
Una de las principales ventajas de la energía solar es su baja intensidad de carbono, que es de alrededor de 45 gCO2eq/kWh. Esto es significativamente menor en comparación con los combustibles fósiles como el carbón, que emite 820 gCO2eq/kWh. Junto con la energía nuclear, que tiene una intensidad de carbono de 12 gCO2eq/kWh, y la energía eólica, que emite 11 gCO2eq/kWh, la solar contribuye a un futuro más sostenible y menos contaminante, ayudando a mitigar el cambio climático y reducir la contaminación del aire.
Actualmente, la energía solar genera el 6.93% de toda la electricidad consumida a nivel mundial, y su importancia es incluso mayor en ciertas regiones. En California, solar aporta el 31% de la electricidad consumida, mientras que en Nevada esta cifra es del 34%. En Nuevo México y Arizona, la generación de electricidad a partir de solar alcanza el 17%, y en Australia representa el 20%. Estos números destacan el potencial de la solar para ser una parte clave de la matriz energética global.
Como tecnología baja en carbono, la energía solar es una solución esencial para aumentar la generación de electricidad de manera sostenible. Con un creciente enfoque en la electrificación y la expansión de tecnologías como la inteligencia artificial, la demanda de electricidad está destinada a aumentar. La energía solar, junto con la nuclear y la eólica, se postula como una solución clara para satisfacer estas demandas mientras se protege el medio ambiente. Fomentar la adopción y expansión de la energía solar es un paso vital hacia un futuro más verde y energético.
